How to use the site, and what to do when something looks wrong.

Start here

  • Getting started

What the site shows, where to find it, and how to read a coin’s prices in a minute. It’s free, with nothing to sign up for.

  • Choose which exchanges to compare

The exchange switch in the header picks the exchanges every page compares. Four are on to start with; add any of the others, or every one a page can show.

  • Find a coin or an exchange

Find a coin, in the header of every page, finds a coin by its ticker or its name, and an exchange by its name. Press / to reach it from anywhere.

  • Use the site on a phone

Every page works on a phone. The header turns into a row of buttons, and the scoreboards and Signals are a button away, over each index’s table.

When something’s wrong

  • An exchange won’t connect

Why an exchange can stay on Connecting, say No reply or Couldn’t load, or turn you away, and what you can do about each.

  • Prices are late, greyed or missing

When an exchange goes quiet, the pages grey its prices, then take them off the table, rather than show an old price as new. Here’s when that happens, and why.

  • A price differs from the exchange’s own

The site compares the middle of each order book, converts stablecoins and currencies at live rates, and shows each price as it arrives. Any of these can make a figure differ from the exchange’s.

  • A coin or an exchange isn’t here

A coin gets its page once two of the exchanges the pages are built from list it. Most exchanges are off until you switch them on, and some can’t be read from a browser at all.

  • A page is slow, or uses a lot of data

Each exchange you have on is a connection of its own, and some pages read every exchange. Fewer exchanges and fewer open tabs make a page lighter.

Reading the pages

  • How to read a coin’s page

A coin’s page puts every exchange’s price side by side: the middle of each order book, the spread, the depth, what a market order would really get, and the books merged into one.

  • What the labels, dots and colours mean

Every word and dot the pages put beside an exchange or a price, and the rule behind each one: Live, Behind, No reply, Thin, Low volume, Quote, Closed and the rest.

  • How the exchanges are ranked

The scoreboards rank every exchange against the others on the markets they share: how often each has the best price, how far behind it usually is, and its funding.

  • Funding rates, as the site shows them

Perpetuals pass funding between longs and shorts. The site writes every exchange’s rate as a rate a year, so hourly and 8-hourly exchanges compare directly.

  • The futures and options pages

The futures and options pages compare options by their implied volatility and dated futures by their premium a year, across the exchanges that list them.

  • Reading Signals

Signals lists where two exchanges are apart on a price by more than it costs to trade both sides, on spot, perpetuals, and futures and options.

Settings and features

  • Settings, one by one

What each of Settings’ choices does: language, currency, theme, price colours, flashing prices, compact coin pages, page introductions, shortcuts and Reset everything.

  • Prices in your own currency

Local currency conversion, in Settings, writes the site’s amounts in euros, pounds, Canadian or Australian dollars or Swiss francs, at Kraken’s live rate.

  • The site in your language

The site is in seven languages, each at its own address. Choose yours in Settings, or take the offer of the page in your browser’s language.

  • Set your own fee tiers

Tell the Trade simulator your trading volume on each exchange and it takes fees at your tier. Signals and the spot scoreboard can use the same tiers.

  • Get alerts for new gaps

Signals can tell you with your browser’s own notification when a new gap opens after fees, while its page is open. Most phones’ browsers show none.

  • Share what you’re looking at

The address follows what you choose on an index, a scoreboard or Signals, such as a side or a sort, so the address you copy opens the page as you see it.

  • Keyboard shortcuts

Press / to find a coin from anywhere, T to switch between light and dark, and Space to pause a coin page’s live prices.

Contact and safety

  • Report a wrong number or a problem

Report a wrong number, in every page’s footer, starts a post to @coinsmash_ on X with the page’s address in it. Send it from the page that’s wrong, and say what you saw.

  • Contact and feedback

Every way to reach the site runs through X: a report of a wrong number, feedback and feature requests, and the site’s own news.

  • Stay safe

The site never messages you first, never asks for keys, seed phrases, passwords or money, and has two accounts, both on X. Anyone else is someone else.
